Brian Sargent
I hold a PhD from Northwestern University in sociology with a focus on policy implementation and public management. I am currently a professor of sociology and public policy at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I have extensive experience advising nonprofits and public agencies and also teaching aspiring nonprofit leaders across the country. A proud North Haven Connecticut resident, I am active in local politics and serve on local boards and commissions as well. My focus has always been on helping nonprofit organizations achieve their goals in helping their communities. In these fraught times, it may be tempting to turn to consultants for advice on how to hunker down and weather the storm. To be clear, I am not the one to hire to lay people off or do less. I am the one you turn to when you want to keep your people and continue to do the good work. I believe that, even in challenging times, nonprofits don’t have to choose between survival and impact. With careful assessments and structured support, mission driven organizations can be adaptable, focused, and can maintain their capacity to make a measurable impact in their communities.
My Approach
My focus has always been on helping nonprofit organizations achieve their goals in helping their communities. I am not the one to hire if you want to lay people off. I am the one you turn to when you want to keep your people. Even in challenging times, nonprofits don’t have to choose between survival and impact. With careful assessments and structured support, mission driven organizations can be adaptable, focused, and can maintain their capacity to make a measurable impact in their communities.
Assessments and Strategic Planning
I meet you where your organization currently is with a suite of services that begin with rigorous and timely assessments of workflow, efficiencies, and capacities. These assessments inform short term and long term strategic planning.
Implementation Support
The next step is change management, capacity building, and workflow reconfiguring. Changes can be hard and anxiety-filled. Useful support understands these concerns at both an individual and organizational level. A supported team is an effective team.
